Senior Backend Engineer (Django & PostgreSQL) - Remote

Location: Remote | Employment Type: Full Time | Salary: KES 200,000 - 250,000 per month

We are seeking a talented Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and maintaining robust backend systems that power high-performance web applications within Africa's dynamic digital ecosystem. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and clean code.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend APIs and services using Python and Django.
• Optimize database performance, schema design, and query execution in PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and product teams to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
• Implement secure data protection and cybersecurity best practices within backend architectures.
• Write clean, testable, and reusable code while conducting thorough code reviews.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot production issues to ensure high availability.

Qualifications (Required)

• Minimum of 5 years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and the Django web framework.
• Deep understanding of relational databases, specifically writing and optimizing PostgreSQL queries.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
• Proven experience working in a fully remote software engineering environment.

Qualifications (Preferred / Desirable)

• Experience with Docker containerization and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud hosting providers such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
